Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Critical Care Scheme (BHECCS) Volunteers

Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Emergency Critical Care Scheme (BHECCS) is looking for volunteers!

We are looking for experienced pre-hospital doctors, and specialist / advanced paramedics (critical care) to join our voluntary team. 

Pre-Hospital Doctor Personal Specification:

EssentialDesirable
ST 5 or above in Emergency Medicine / Anaesthetics or Intensive Care Medicine.Completed specialty training in Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia, or Intensive Care Medicine.
Demonstrable experience of delivering independent (“signed-off”) pre-hospital critical care – including PHEA and surgical skills – for a minimum of 6 months full-time (or equivalent if part-time), within 3 years of the date of application.ALS / PHTLS / EPLS / PHPLS / DipIMC
Minimum 3 months full time anaesthesia experience.Teaching qualification.
GMC registration with licence to practice with no restrictions.Sub-specialist registration in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM).
Up to date with appraisal / revalidation (or equivalent). 
No pending or outstanding disciplinary action or performance issues with current or previous employer. 
Reference from your Responsible Officer / Clinical Director (or similar) advising suitability to perform level 3 interventions (PHEA / surgical skills etc.) in the pre-hospital environment with remote Consultant supervision. 

Specialist / Advanced Paramedic (Critical Care) Personal Specification:

EssentialDesirable
Currently working in a specialist / advanced level role in pre-hospital critical care, with a minimum of 1 year since ‘sign-off’ (or equivalent if part-time).Level 7 academic qualification
Demonstrable experience of independent pre-hospital critical care delivery.ALS / PHTLS / EPLS / PHPLS / DipIMC
Registered as a Paramedic with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) for a minimum of 5 years, with no restrictions to practice.Teaching qualification
Level 6 academic qualification, or equivalent.TRiM Practitioner
Blue-light driver, with no more than 3-points on driving license. 
No pending or outstanding disciplinary action or performance issues with current or previous employer. 
Significant demonstrable development of mentoring and coaching skills through formal learning and application. 
Demonstrate understanding and application of shared decision making, cognitive bias, risk management and human factors in operational and clinical environments. 

For both roles, a minimum commitment of 16 voluntary hours per month is expected. This should comprise of a minimum of 1x clinical shift on our Luton based rapid response vehicle, and 1x session of training / governance / fundraising etc. Furthermore, you should be able to provide a suitable supportive reference from your most recent pre-hospital service, if requested.
